Why I built it: the clock is the scariest thing on stage.
Every talk I gave had the same three moments. Mid-talk, I’d glance at the clock and realize half the time was gone—and I was still on slide six. Someone would ask a sharp question, and my mind would go blank for a beat too long. And the night before, I’d notice I had rehearsed the opening five times and the closing zero.
Teleprompters fix none of this—they make you read and kill live delivery. Plain timers show total time, which tells you you’re in trouble without telling you where. So I built the tool I wanted on stage: one that watches the clock so I don’t have to.
I’m a marketing director, not a developer. Speaker Copilot is a personal side project built on evenings—AI wrote the code, and I did the product thinking. The result is free and open source.
How it works: three steps from draft to standing ovation
Step 1 · Before: split the talk into timed sections
Set the total time once—sections share it by percent. Change 45 minutes to 30, and everything rescales automatically. Add short notes to each section, then prepare your clue cards, SOS phrases, and Q&A answers.
Step 2 · On stage: press Start and just speak.
Sections advance automatically—no tapping, no reading. A short vibration marks every transition; a gentle nudge warns you 30 seconds before a section ends. One big timer shows the whole talk, a smaller one shows the current section, and the section list answers “where am I?” at a glance. The screen stays awake, and everything works offline—conference Wi-Fi is a myth.
Step 3 · After: rate the run, watch yourself grow
Score every rehearsal on five criteria and jot one note about what to improve. Your average climbs toward a readiness target—when the number turns green, you’re ready. Not because you feel ready, but because ten timed rehearsals say so. The live talk gets its own final score.
When things go sideways: three card decks, one tap away
Clue cards. Planned hints for every stage of the talk—opening, results, transitions, and closing. Tap a card, and it fills the screen with your key number or phrase.
SOS. Six-stage emergencies are covered: lost your train of thought, running out of time, and tech failure. Ready-made phrases that buy back your composure in seconds.
Q&A. Answer scaffolds for tough questions—when you know it, when you need a moment, and when you honestly don’t. Never improvise an “I don’t know” again.
